Marine, Derek “Marshmallow” Bohi has fought all over the place for promotions such as Bellator and RFA, and looks to fight in his backyard here in KC March 14th at the Overland Park International Trade Center.
He will face a very tough Professional Mixed Martial Artists and Boxer TJ Jones of Dodge City, KS.
Tell me about your martial arts background and accomplishments…
“My main MA background is in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I wrestled in high school, but didn’t really do anything else until 2004 when I joined a BJJ club at KU. Had a few years since where I was unable to train, but I’ve been pretty much training and teaching BJJ full time since 2010. I medaled at IBJJF World Championships in 2013, and am currently a Nova Uniao Brown Belt”
What is your Ammy and Pro Record?
“As an amateur I went 10-5 and my pro record is 5-3.”
What are you doing to prepare for this fight?
“Training hard and putting gameplans together. In addition to my fight, I teach BJJ and MMA at Warriors Academy in the Crossroads. I coach Josh Reed who is fighting for the amateur PFC 170lb belt. This is the first time I’ve coached and fought on the same night so we are putting a lot of work. “
What drove you to participate in the sport of MMA?
“I got into MMA kind of as a challenge to myself. I had just got back from a deployment to Iraq with my Marine Corps unit and had a friend that was an amateur fighter and I thought it sounded fun. I just got hooked and have been in the sport ever since. “
